A Service of Lessons & Carols is a cherished event in the life of Saint Andrew's School and in Episcopal communities around the world. The service consists of prayers and scripture readings, interspersed with hymns and music offerings, all of which express the human longing for peace, redemption, and light in a time of darkness. The hope that God will send the Messiah, a promise that Christians believe God began to fulfill with the birth of Jesus, runs through the service like a seam of precious ore.
The Saint Andrew's Lessons & Carols services will animate that hope through the voices and gifts of our school community. Student and faculty readers will give new life to ancient words when they are read again. Between these readings, music offerings from student choruses, instrumental ensembles, and congregational hymns respond to the readings and provide moments for quiet reflection and beauty.
At the heart of our Lessons & Carols services is the luminous invitation to, as we say in the concluding prayer of the service, "love what is most deeply human, and to see Your love reflected in the faces of all we encounter."
